Possible Power Outage at Carnegie:

On Tuesday 22 July there will be construction on Lyons Street from 8am - 2pm. During this time, we may experience a power outage at Carnegie. If this occurs, please remain calm and follow staff instructions.

Phone-Free Wellness — Have Your Say

As part of our commitment to creating a safe and relaxing space for all members, we are reviewing the use of mobile phones in the Wellness Area at our Glen Eira Leisure facilities.

Whether you’re someone who listens to music to unwind, or prefers a completely device-free experience, your opinion matters.

What will this phone-free policy mean?

We’re proposing a phone-free policy within the Wellness area at GESAC and/or Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool (CMSP).

  • Please note the ‘wellness area’ in the case refers to the spa, steam room, sauna and infrared sauna if applicable (as only GESAC currently offers an infraresauna).
  • You will have the option to vote for each facility separately, e.g. Yes for GESAC and No for CMSP.

If implemented, you will be required to leave your phone in the lockers provided.

Potential impacts of introducing a phone-free policy within the wellness area:

Benefits of having a phone-free wellness area

  • Enhances relaxation and serenity: Creates a distraction-free environment where you can truly unwind. Limiting your screen time plays an important role in mental recovery and relaxation.
  • Protects your device from potential damage: Exposure to heat, steam, and moisture in wellness areas like saunas and steam rooms can easily harm phones, leading to overheating or malfunctioning.
  • Protects your privacy: Whilst filming and photography is not allowed in the wellness area, this will help ensure the policy is followed. This helps foster a respectful environment where you can fully relax with no concerns.

Limitations of having a phone-free wellness area

  • Limited access to wellness-enhancing apps and tools: You may enjoy listening to music, podcasts, or following guided meditation. A phone-free policy would limit your access to these personal wellness tools.
  • Keeping track of time: You may rely on your phone to track time spent in the wellness area or follow a breathing exercise using a timer app. If phone use is restricted, you’d need to bring an alternative device such as a watch to continue these activities.
  • Reduced connectivity and accessibility: If you need to stay reachable for urgent matters such as family or work. A phone-free policy may cause inconvenience or stress due to limited access to communication.
