IDAHOBIT

In collaboration with Queer Sporting Alliance (QSA) – Australia’s premier LGBTQIA+ sporting club, Glen Eira Leisure is proud to celebrate International Day Against LGBTIQA+ Discrimination (IDAHOBIT) with a QSA info stall, special Body Attack Class and a Rainbow Round of GEL Netball!

The city of Glen Eira is proud to have a diverse community where everybody belongs. We welcome everyone to celebrate with us, no experience needed.

At GEL, we are committed to ensuring everyone feels welcome, safe, and supported while using our facilities and participating in our sporting leagues.

This year we are joining forces with QSA and celebrating IDAHOBIT with a QSA led information stall, an all-inclusive Body Attack Class and Rainbow Netball Round on Monday 19 May.

Body Attack Class:

To mark the occasion, we're hosting a special Body Attack class at 7pm on Monday 19 May at Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre (GESAC).  No experience required!

This class is FREE to members and guests! Bookings are essential: Members can book via the Member Portal. Guests, please use the link on this page to book your spot!

Rainbow Netball Round:

We are also recognising this day with a Rainbow Round of GEL Netball!

GEL Netball is going rainbow to signal our stance against LGBTQIA+ discrimination. Teams participating in our GEL Netball competition will be provided with our custom-designed "Pride" bibs for their games on Monday 19 May.

What is IDAHOBIT?

Friday 17 May is International Day Against LGBTIQA+ Discrimination (IDAHOBIT).

IDAHOBIT marks the day that homosexuality was removed from the WHO Classification of Diseases in 1990 and represents an important milestone in the recognition of LGBTQIA+ rights globally. However, LGBTQIA+ people in Australia still today experience disproportionate rates of bullying, harassment, and discrimination, highlighting the ongoing need for advocacy and education to promote acceptance and equality for all. For more information and resources on maximizing LGBTQIA+ inclusion, visit www.idahobit.org.au.

This is an inclusive event and aims to promote understanding and respect for all members of our diverse community. Council has a zero-tolerance policy to any form of discrimination.
