Carnegie Swim Centre Redevelopment

Carnegie Swim Centre is a much-loved part of Glen Eira where many memories have been made for more than 50 years. The buildings and pools are now at the end of their serviceable life and need to be replaced.

Our community is growing and we need to broaden the facilities at Carnegie Swim Centre to cater for the additional demand for aquatic and leisure facilities. In doing so, we intend to retain the essential elements of Carnegie Swim Centre, as we know that is important.

The concept plans for Carnegie Swim Centre include a mix of indoor and outdoor pools and activities. The intent is to retain the local pool characteristics as requested in previous community feedback.

The redevelopment will see the Centre become an all-year-round leisure facility, with a range of services for a broader section of the community. This will enable us to provide programs, such as learn-to-swim, and targeted programs to meet specific community health needs, delivering a range of physical and mental health benefits.

Concept designs

We are undertaking consultation on the redevelopment options for the Carnegie Swim Centre. Three options are being proposed and we want to find out which option the community prefers.

Option A and B will both have redeveloped indoor and outdoor pools.

  • Option A — will include beach volleyball but excludes a diving pool.
  • Option B — will include an outdoor diving pool but excludes beach volleyball.
  • Option C — close existing Swim Centre, re-establish open space and investigate options to extend GESAC.

We want to hear from you

You can find out more detail on the plans, see concept design images for each option, and fill in a short survey on which option you would prefer.

Consultation closes on Friday 31 January 2020. The community consultation report will be published on the Council’s Have your Say online forum in early 2020.
